Janel’s #CBR4 Review 43 Bond Girl by Erin Duffy
I read this book based on a review written by another book blogger. Unfortunate, I was disappointed by this book. It reminded me of The Nanny Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada. Perhaps I was expecting a different outcome, but the book felt very formulaic. On the positive, the book was an interesting look at Wall Street before the latest financial crisis. The romantic plot lines were boring and lacking creativity.
If you like The Nanny Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada, but are looking for a different take on a similar industry this book is not for you.
This was an impulse buy for me at Costco (damn you Costco book isle!) and I was also underwhelmed. The protagonist had no real personality. The relationship was laughable (the “he’s a jerk” signs are all but slapping her upside the head). The dialog was pretty feeble. The redeeming parts of the book however were the moments on the bond floor that felt really tangible, which I’m pretty confident actually happened. My favorite was the dude who made the bet about eating the entire vending machine. Sadly those cool moments weren’t enough to salvage the rest.
I agree that the vending machine story seemed like something traders would do.
