BoatGirl’s #CBR4 Review #54: A Rather Charming Invitation by C.A. Belmond
Book 3 in the series about Penny Nichols and Jeremy Laidley finds Penny and Jeremy attempting to plan their wedding despite interference and exceedingly strong opinions from various distant family members.
The two sides of the family stepping in are her father’s French relatives and Jeremy’s English grandmother. A new mystery quickly takes shape as the French relatives insist that Penny and Jeremy marry in front of a family heirloom, a centuries old tapestry that may tell a story. Penny falls in love with the tapestry and temporarily moves it to her and Jeremy’s house near Nice, but when it is stolen, is plunged into a mystery trying to recover it.
This was a fun book which introduced readers to Le Train Bleu, a luxury train from England to the French Riviera, as well as more fun Penny Nichols relatives, like an elderly French ballet dancer. The mystery was decently plotted and the settings are fabulous. Great, light read for when you need a wealthy vacation but can’t afford one.
