meilufay’s #CBR4 review #37 Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh
I’ve read such great reviews of Nalini Singh’s books, I thought I should give a second series a try even though I really disliked her series about angels. And, actually, I enjoyed this book way more but not so much that I’m likely to read anything by this author again. It is, as with her other novels, a romance novel with genre elements. This series is called the Psy-Changeling series because it’s a world dominated by two human subspecies. One, the Psy, have increased psionic abilities but have bred out annoying emotions – something that has had really bad side effects in a small percentage of the population. The Changelings are shape shifters. Kind of the opposite of the Psy in that they embrace their animal nature (literally) and enjoy sex and food and stuff (sensation). I actually like the basic premise of the world and Nalini Singh does a good job with making the two different cultures believable. And there are some good tingle-inducing sex scenes. (The whole thing, obviously, is designed as a vehicle for romantic sex scenes in much the same way as coffee is a delivery system for caffeine.) If this is your kind of thing, you’ll probably love Nalini Singh. If not, and you know who you are, this is not the series that’s going to make you realize that vaginal fantasy has its literary merits.
